Tamir Rice's family files federal lawsuit against city of Cleveland
The family of a 12-year-old boy who was shot dead by a Cleveland police officer last month has filed a federal wrongful death lawsuit, according to court records released Friday.
The suit names the city of Cleveland and the two officers who responded the day Tamir Rice was killed as defendants. The eight-page document claims officers Timothy Loehmann and Frank Garmback acted with excessive force and failed to get medical attention for four minutes after Rice was shot.
On Nov. 22, Rice was carrying an air rifle at Cleveland's Cudell Recreation Center when a local resident made a 911 call to report a guy with a gun, but noted the weapon was "probably fake." Read more...
